Visiting Kuwait on business last week, I had a great customer experience while taking a taxi.
While services like Uber and Careem are changing the way people get around, sometimes it’s nice to be surprised by a simple customer journey.
It started out as any other cab ride might. The doorman at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kuwait flagged down a taxi for a short ride to the other side of town. While taxis do have a meter, it is not uncommon for the drivers to ask the passenger how much they want to pay for the ride.
As I fumbled in my wallet, looking for the right denomination of Kuwaiti Dinar, the driver informed me that he could add the fare to my hotel bill. He gave me a receipt and I got out of the car without paying.
Later when I checked out, the agreed amount for the ride was added to my hotel bill.
Obviously a system like this is based on trust, cultural norms and rules that are specific to visiting Kuwait city, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it was a great customer experience.
**Yes, I know that the image is probably a New York taxi, but images of Kuwait taxis are quite hard to find.
